Post subject:  Davy Jones Bats - my experience

I just thought I would share my experience with a bat company that happens to be right down the road from me. FYI - I am not affiliated with them in any way - posting purely to pass along the info - I like the bats a lot. They are called Davy Jones Bats:
http://davyjonesbats.com/

I found it, as I said, because its literally 2 miles from where I live - was just driving along one day and saw a sign for "Davy Jones Bats".

When I went in the first time I was greeted by Davy - really nice guy. Gave me a tour of his facility after knowing him for about 5 minutes. His shop is also attached to an indoor practice facility, and you can take any of his bats and go hit with them in a cage for free to try them out. I've hit with about 10 different models by now (including a few crazy 'experimental' models), and have loved most of them (my dislike of one or two were purely based on the profile not 'fitting' me - the quality was still great.)

I own both the 'Veritas' model and the 'Proteus' (with custom flared knob) and they are both awesome to hit with. He told me he is currently in the process of getting the ash and maple bats approved for use in MLB. The composite handles look sweet too. As far as price goes, they aren't cheap, but they are about in line with other small bat makers (and some larger bat companies with overpriced bats).

Aside from what I think is outstanding quality, there are a couple of unique bits about the bat. First, he signs every bat he makes in the cupped end of the bat. Kind of silly to some, maybe, but kind of cool, i think, having a craftsman put his mark on his work. He also puts the date that he made the bat on the knob (along with your initials, or your number, or whatever you want). The date isn't just for looks - its because his composite bats are warrantied, and that allows him to see how long you've been using it. Anyway, this was a bit rambling, but I highly recommend checking them out. And sorry, no, I can't get you a discount haha - as I said, just passing along info.

Thanks for the review. I will keep an eye out for these. Wood bat companies are kind of like micro-brews. There are so many around the country and you can tell people put a lot of work into them.

Ran into a rep for these guys... played some A-ball... pretty good and knowledgeable guy. Says they're getting some interest from some of the guys in the Rockies and D-backs organizations at spring training, but they don't have their MLB cert.
Might get a chance to take some swings with one this spring, and compare it to the LS Maple 1XX's.

I'm brutal with remembering names of people I just met, but I believe he played in the Angels organization and said he broke Mark Teixeira's NCAA record for intentional walks in a season.
