My question is are the custom catchers gloves the same quality as the Rawlings gloves issued to Rawlings sponsored catchers such as joe mauer or Jose Molina?

Yes, they are made in the same Philippino manufacturing plant.

I repaired a custom HOH catchers mitt about a month ago.

The mitt was used for one season, and already had stitching at the thumb top (on the side of the mitt, thick edge) that was torn from getting hit with the ball.

I had to unlace the perimiter, and sew the pieces back together.

Regardless of being made in the same factory, I have to assume that a Pro Player gets a better glove than the consumer does.

Leather quality difference between pro issues and stock Rawlings isn't nearly as noticeable as with Wilsons. You're gonna get a quality glove.
Speaking of catcher's mitts, I'd get a Heart of the Hide. Pro Preferreds are excellent, but having owned/tried both of them, I prefer the stiffer feel of HOHs when catching (I think PPs are better suited for infield because of their super stout thumb and pinky). Dry black, tan and oxblood/primo are the best leathers available for HOHs in my opinion.

Rawlings retail gloves are excellent quality, but they aren't the same as a glove ordered for a pro ballplayer through the pro dept.

Nicely written. I couldn't agree more. Just sold my sons two tone catchers mitt, it got soft pretty quickly. Now he just uses his HOH mitt (oxblood Podey model) and is looking for a second as a backup to start breaking in.

So you guys are saying that the custom rawlings aren't any better than the regular rawlings hoh or pps?

I think the original ones have the same quality as the quality of leather matters in gloves, jackets, shoes, etc. So, whenever I buy some good quality clothes, I make sure to buy it from a reliable store like BerryLook Coupons so that there is assurance of the genuine leather used in the making of leather jackets, pants, etc.
