I want to introduce to the G-W community a new item that I developed with my dad. The only glove stands available in the market tend to be either wood boards with dowels or injection-molded plastic. Those fall short of how I would like to showcase my gloves so I asked my father, who makes turned wood bowls, to see what he could do. After evolving our design through many iterations we developed the Carpenter Glove Pedestal.

These pedestals take many hours to turn, carve, sand, and finish so it’s not clear to us if they will fetch enough to make it worth my dad’s time. I told my dad that I’d do an eBay auction to see what the market is. This forum is the only place I’m announcing them. If this first one sells for enough there will be more.

BTW - The photo with a glove is Gabby’s 2010 Carpenter.

I love having these pedestals around my workshop. What do you think?

I've got a feeling that your avatar is also my Carpenter, right? It's always a proud feeling to see my glove on your website.

Yeah Gabby. I've been using that photo in a lot of places for a while now. I'll have to change photos soon though to reflect all the new designs and materials i'm using now.

Looking at the pedestal pics I'm wondering if people realize that this wood was chosen specifically to highlight all the funky knots, dark veins, and grains. You wouldn't want these things in a bat or a glove mallet, but they look great on these pedestals. My dad turns wood bowls where the idea isn't to achieve machine like perfection but rather to highlight the natural elements.

The feedback on the wood pedestals has been enthusiastic ... except for the price. So my father and I created these new glove pedestals by casting plaster. They sell for one third the price. More pics and description are on our eBay store (see link above). I just can't bring myself to put my gloves on those injection-molded glove stands so this has been a fun side project to create a better alternative. Still evolving as we go.

Do you make the plaster pedestal for a left hand throw glove?

fogman - No. Maybe in the future.

My dad recently made this and sent it to me as a surprise. His pedestals keep getting better and I think this is the best yet. It's not for sale - I just thought I'd share. It's made out of black cherry wood. He found a section that was nearly perfectly round allowing him to keep most of the bark on the outer edge.
