I know a lot of us play ball in different leagues and at different levels and I'm just curious as to what game balls do you guys use and how you like them? This year our league switched from Rawlings ROML to Wilson 1010 and there have been a lot of complaints about these balls. We made the change for a couple reasons, one being cost, and the other being durability. We found the Rawlings would get scuffed up and dirty quickly and some found them slick at the end of the games. So far the Wilsons have either been great or really bad. Some had to be thrown out of the game as soon as they came out of the wrapper. Some lost their shape after being hit or hitting a fence.

We are already looking at options for next year so any info would be much appreciated.

The Diamond 'Professional NFHS' (cant remember the exact model number, sorry) are my favorite. But they cost like 7 bucks a piece.

While playing at Notre Dame's field this weekend I found a game ball laying in the dugout so I took it. Complete with the Big East stamp, the seems are a lot better that other balls I've used

Thanks for the input baseknocks. We actually did look at Diamond as a possible ball but found their customer service to be horrible. I guess ordering 1200+ balls is not important enough for them.

In our Long Island MSBL/MABL league they decided to switch to a different Rawlings ball and it was soooo terrible - like hitting wet newspaper. This year's Rawlings balls are better. Check out the MSBL website, or call them for what they use.

It sounds old and trite, but you really do get what you pay for. My experience in the coaching and administration of organized baseball on several levels and my own preference for high quality equipment taught me that there is a huge difference in the quality of baseballs and that it is more cost efficient to purchase a better quality ball that gets more play than a cheaper one that becomes discolored or misshapen too easily. If you want to check a specific ball out, order just one dozen to begin with. If you like it, order more. If you don't, you haven't risked much out of the treasury.

Thanks guys!

I agree that you get what you pay for. Seeing as the Wilson 1010 is a popular ball in many leagues we didn't think it would be this much of a problem. Our league did test several balls before the season but because of the weather up here it had to be done indoors and on a limited scale. None of the problems that have shown up during the season were seen in the testing sessions.
