I was really pulling for Jay Bruce - love that guy. He'll get one some day.

I think they got it right with Darwin Barney and JJ Hardy.

Yeah, I think everyone that got one deserved one. You know they are making progress when Jeter doesn't get one anymore :D

Adam Jones is brutal defensively. McCuthchen is below average.

John Kruk was surprised that Barney got the GG over Brandon Phillips.

Barney had 141 games without an error, and 28 runs saved. Phillips, a great fielder, had 11 or 12 runs saved.

Real surprising.

Speaking of runs saved, Brendan Ryan had 16 more runs saved than any other fielder (IF and OF) in both leagues. Couldn't hit above .200 though.... makes you wonder.

Actually, now that I look over his stats, there were more deserving candidates...but I'm really biased, having grown up in Pittsburgh. I guess I overlooked that because I wanted him to win.

It was also nice to see Adam LaRoche finally get some recognition. I always thought his defensive skills were underrated.

I really think that the award is stupid, but if they would base the award on whoever actually is the best fielder at their position - it could really give a boost to the aspect of defense.

I hate seeing players get the award because they are the best overall player offensively at the position. I wish it were based strictly on defense.

In 1999, Rafael Palmeiro won the GG at 1B, and only played defense in 28 GAMES!!!! What the hell is that all about????

This year, David Wright was more deserving at 3B than Chase Headley. Brendan Ryan was the best SS in baseball, but since he hit .194 he gets nada. Jimmy Rollins getting the NL GG at SS is an absolute joke, but not as big a joke as Carlos Gonzalez getting the GG in LF - he ranked around the bottom in UZR and DRS amoung his peers. Andrew McCutchen and Adam Jones were equally as unworthy.

Let's hope that Mike Trout gets the AL MVP, because it would be a shame if he got robbed of MVP and a GG in his first year (with respect to Miguel Cabrera).

Agreed. To me, the Fielding Bible Award is an accurate scope on who the best fielders are in the game. The Gold Glove award is somewhat more of a popularity contest. Although JJ Hardy did a great job at SS this season, Brendan Ryan did an even better job.
