Ive noticed alot of arguing and disagreement over the repeating of topics so maybe a place that a new member could get basic threads on (glove break in, oils/conditioners, etc) This could lessen the tension possibly

I was thinking that a small Wiki might be a good companion to the forum. Some members seem to want a reference library, while others want to initiate and participate in conversations. A Wiki would provide an authoritative reference on a number of topics and be a good starting point for queries, while the forum would allow people to ask questions specific to their situations and have discussions. The Wiki could include articles on each major manufacturer (with, for example, sections on specific markings and what they mean), popular models, break-in techniques, leather types, etc.

As evidenced by the problems people have searching, a php bulletin board is not a good reference tool. Trying to turn it into one disrupts conversations and the community, particularly when it's done with a nasty tone.

Love the idea of a wiki. Maybe one with limited editing privileges to certain members only? (To avoid "trolling")
