I just bought my almost 10yo a 11" Nike Standout Glove for $45 at Sports Authority. He liked it because it was black with some cobalt blue in the palm. It feels nice, but I don't know if this will be a good glove for him for the next few years. I haven't found any information online about this glove. If I can get him a better glove for the same price, I would rather do it and can convince him that the Nike glove might look cooler, but the other glove is much better.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance from a newbie..

I can post a picture or details from the tag tonight if needed.

It's tough to get a read on the Nike
standout gloves because they're a few years old & no longer made. Will he get a few years out of it? Highly doubtful & at 10yo, he's still growing & developing.

A much better choice in that price range would be a Vinci Youth Glove.

Truth be told, at 10yo, you should be lookig to get him something better than a $50 glove especially if he's playing organized ball & is serious about playing.. You should, at the very least, be doubling that amount!

Thank you for your input. He plays rec baseball, likes playing, and is decent, but not a travel caliber player and might never be. I didn't realize that it is a few years old now. No wonder why there is no information out there on it. To spend $90-$100 on a glove now seems a bit much as I have read posts here and reviews about very good quality gloves in the $40-$60 range. Do you really think I need to be spending $100 on a glove for a casual player? I will look at the Vinci gloves..

Thanks,'

Steven

For that price, the HR monkey Rawlings tapers are a better glove.

As far as I'm concerned when you buy a cheap glove you get what you pay for. Junk. You may luck out and get a great used glove if there is a play it again sports near you. Look for all leather, no plastic. You might try ebay. Seems like you lack knowledge on gloves, so you may want to ask your friends or fathers of players on your son's rec team for help.
