It seems to be a high quality glove and it's kind of ridiculous looking

Looks, as always, are subjective. I don't think it looks any worse than a Nike N1 AIR or some of those other Taiwan-manufactured mitts you see on eBay.

You'll probably laugh at this story, but I know a catcher who bought one of these Morimoto mitts off eBay on a whim. He figured, for 110 bucks, how bad can it be? He started using it in bullpen sessions and then a few weeks later, he used it in a game. He liked it so much, he bought a black one with the "stiff" leather for $140 (apparently these are available on the 'bay as well) and is going to be breaking that one in over the winter. He says the mitt is listed at 36", but it's really more like 35". He'll be selling his 35" All-Star CM3000BT which was his gamer up to the end of this season and will be going with the Morimoto next season  (yes, you read that right). He also told me he felt the "Anion silicone patch" thingy actually works and his hand feels better after a game than when catching with the All-Star. Whether that's really due to the anion patch or simply the design of the mitt itself is the question. In any case, I gave him the number of a psychiatrist here in town and told him to make an appointment ;)

But all kidding aside, if he likes the mitt and is a happy camper, I guess that's all that really matters. You gotta go with whatever works for you...however unbelievable it may seem.
