http://www.ebay.com/itm/Game-Used-Mark- ... 33823d1a4d

I wrote the seller this:

It's clear that there was a period stitched after the name, and the stitching was removed. If this was really game used, or even game issued, it wouldn't have the period after the name. The reason for the period is because Bob Clevenhagen, who made this mitt at Rawlings, had the idea to put periods after the name on gloves that were made to be autographed and sold, not to be used. By adding the period, he ensured that the gloves/mitts could never be sold as game used, which is what you're doing.

The same thing was done on Cal Ripken Jr., and Ken Griffey Jr. gloves (they both had multiple periods because there would normally be a period after Jr.) There are also gloves at the Rawlings factory outlet stores that have the periods after the name because they were made to be kept in cases at the factory store. If it wasn't for the periods, Rawlings knows that people would play with them and sell them as game used.

You can call Rawlings ask for Bob Clevenhagen and he will confirm this

He responded with this:

How is it that everyone on eBay is an expert on something! You have no idea of the history of this glove ! While you may have some information on some gloves , you personally have no clue where this glove was acquired or how ! Thanks for the questionable info that you think stands for all gloves, but in this instance , you are way off base! Enjoy eBay and stop trying to police it as a know it all, because you are clearly not!!!!!!!

Can we see a screen shot of where he sent that response to you?

Good info right here. One can clearly see that the period has been removed.

hilarious. his only saving grace (the seller) is that McGwire forgot his glove at home and somehow got a hold of a retail version with the "dot" and had to use it in a game. and MM didn't like the period after his name so he removed it with his mom's sewing stitch remover (highly unlikely, but possible...insert sarcasm here)

i actually asked the seller to post the last picture showing more of the "thumb" area and i'm sure he didn't realize that i was trying to expose the hole left behind from the "dot" ;)

so unless he has provenance....

The glove doesn't even look game used. Looks like the seller just brushed some dirt on it.

That, or he used it for a while and decided to sell.
