The first post of this thread discusses the firmness of the Philippines custom tan. I'm looking for some feedback on the COLOR of the Philippines tan. According to the customizer, the "Tan" looks like this:

This could obviously be better described as brown, not tan. Is this brown color inaccurate? If I buy a "Tan" custom, will something close to the tan we're all familiar with show up at my door? I want tan - but need to make sure I won't be getting brown.

My brother got a tan custom a few months ago, and IMO the leather is terrible. In some places the color is light, and in others it is dark. The leather is also has a very grainy texture. The tan custom I got two years ago is made of much better leather. If you are willing to pay 300 I suggest that you order a custom from Eastbay. Certainly the best tan leather I have ever felt, and I have only heard good things about the other colors. Anyway, the tan from the Phillipines is very close to brown.

Appreciate the response.

Only reason I'm after the Philippines custom is that I want an NP5. The Eastbay infield customs are a bit too round for my taste. Any opinion on what might be the least awful of the Philippines leather? My other thought is "Black Dry", but I can't seem to find any info beyond that it's different from the USA black.

He still makes customs, but he won't do any special requests unless you order directly through him.

Do you guys think there is anyway Bob would be willing to do a custom U.S. mesh back? Because that would be a dream come true!

No, I think I read he doesn't have the equipment/supplies to do it, but I can be wrong.

Does this mean I call him? Will he give me options on everything, not just what's on the site? I can't even tell where the site is---this it?

http://www.eastbay.com/searchresults/?N ... s%20Gloves

I must be at the wrong place. That is not how I want to order a $300 glove. What am I starting with? There's only one pattern for each size! There's no open back 12.00? No two-piece web? No double welt? No stitching color?

As far as options go, Bob doesn't have the equipment/materials. If you want more patterns and webs your best bet is to get a standard custom. Dual Welting is not generally used on Rawlings gloves.

So these are more assembled and finished than fully custom.

No, not at all.

Come on, no equipment to do stitching? No materials for two-piece webs? I gotta check on that myself for sure, I can hardly believe that.

Sounds like you don't want one of Bob's customs. People don't order Bob's customs for the vast options, rather they order them because they use fantastic materials and are well constructed.

Sounds like you are mostly concerned with how your glove looks. I would order from one of the many vendors offering Philippines customs.
