One of the favorite tools in my glove shop is a glove mallet that I made from the handle of a bat that cracked. The bat was a homemade model that I put a lot of time into making and when it cracked in a game I wanted to find a way to make something out of it rather than throw it out. I cut the handle and cupped the end to match the curve of a softball. I choose a softball that has a hard wood-composite core. I drilled out a hole in the ball and in the bat handle and then added a long thick bolt with a washer. The last step was to grind down the top of the bolt to match the curvature of the ball. It has proven to be very durable. I use it on every glove that I make. I like the longer length of the handle compared to the short handles that are typical of most store-bought mallets.

Very nice. More momentum for sure with that longer handle! I like it very much!

I've made these before, I have one recommendation.

Countersink that lag screw all the way into the softball.
Otherwise it will scratch the crap out of the pocket.

Looks nice
