Ok, I am looking for a new softball glove. I live 90 miles from Nocona and have visited the factory, so the AMG600 is on my very short list as the hometown favorite. But I am also intrigued by the Vinci mesh-backed models. I have played in 100+ deg. heat and, as a sometimes pitcher, I like to be able to move the glove pretty quickly. Since the mesh makes up only the outer shell, does it really help much with the heat? And how much lighter is a, say, a BMB-M vs. a BMB-L? Anyone have any experience with each of these? Thanks.

Mesh is both lighter and cooler in my experience with it. Is it a huge difference? No. But it's a difference that doesn't hurt. Especially if you're playing in Texas heat.

Thanks for the thoughts. If there is one person on the site I was hoping to hear from, it's you.

Vinci makes some very nice gloves. I own (2) currently. They due tend to run a 1/2" smaller than stated size though.

JMHO,
Mike

I'd agree with that. My son got a Vinci MV3 for Christmas and it is very nicely put together. Although stiff as anything at first, it is finally starting to soften up -- although by my measure (based on the exposed edges of the web) it is 5oz kip leather, not 6.5. But that is probably all for the good. My new 6 oz steerhide glove from Glovesmith is a beast. It does make me wonder how thick the 5oz kip gloves are.

You are right about the sizing, although listed at 11.75", it barely measures at 11.25". It does have a nice bowl shape and the thumb/finger padding is on the thin side all of which will allow it to play bigger. I tried to get him to trade it in for a 12" MV30, but once he heard that Neftali Feliz used a MV3 in the minors, it was all over.

The mesh on the BMB-M vs the BMB-L equates to about 1.5oz in weight savings. Is it a lot, no. But definitely noticeable.

As far as being cooler than an all leather model, my hand hasn't sweat as much in the mesh back gloves as much as an all leather glove.

My apologies for not being around as of late to answer questions. Personal life got busy. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via PM or at my email mjones@vincipro.com.

Thanks for the info. I actually need to use a gift card for Don Morton Sports and decided to try the Nokona AMG650 first as they only had one 650 left. I was looking for a 600BFC, but they were out. If it doesn't work for me, I'll return it for the BMB. If not for the gift card, I'd certainly be looking for a Vinci rep. on the board. Access to reps is such a great part of the board, I wish guys representing more mfgs were on the site.

Vinci is making a big splash in the fastpitch parks this summer.
The new mesh back fastpitch versions are really nice.

They are stiff when new, but break in easily. The ladies seem to
like the mesh back as they are a little lighter and cooler.

One girl I spoke with said she just loves the way it fits.

Starting to see a lot of them on the field. Both the fastpitch versions
and the regular limited series.

This coupon code GWF10 works at buyfastpitchgloves.com

Rous,

Just to confuse you more (as it appears you and I have the same taste in gloves...) I picked up a Vinci TJ1952-M and I plan on using this glove for outfield and pitching duties. This glove is about 1.5oz lighter than an all leather TJ. I like the way this glove is breaking in. This glove started life playing a bit bigger than the indicated 13.5", but now that it has started to shape up, it plays more like a true 13.5" glove.
I don't have any updated pics after it has started to form a pocket. These pics are from when it was brand new:

 We sure do share the same sense of gloves. I used a BMB-M all summer on the mound. But now I am thinking about trading it in for one of the BMB-OB or maybe a PC2443. I like the open backs for playing in the TX heat.

Zerwas, glove looks sweet. I was going to buy it for my personal gamer, but I decided to let someone else buy it. Do I really need another TJ1952? lol

Rous, the BMB-M is a good glove. The BMB-OB is a touch little wider in the pocket than the BMB-L/M due to the open back. I had one for a very short time before moving it and the pocket started to form similar to the BMB-L/M.
