I suggest that you purchase a better catchers mitt, like an All Star, A2403, or HOH.

Here is another option, offered for sale here on the forum
http://glove-works.getforum.org/new-pro-issue-tpx-catchers-mitt-t12168.html

Internal padding can be added to your current mitt by taking it apart, but added padding will reduce feel, and affect performance of the mitt.

P.S. Reading your username, I would have thought you to be the kid, not the parent. :D

I'd try a padded glove first...

Thank you for the responses. I was going to try and see if I could return the akadema today as that Louisville would have been a great bargain but I see it has sold :x . Don't know if they would have taken it back considering it has a couple weeks use and some oil in it already, but they should considering how thin this thing is. I guess that's what I get for not doing my homework. As far as the username goes I am only 32 had my son when I was 17 so I am an overgrown kid :D
I may still call to see if I can return was wondering if anyone knows of any other great deals or if a Rawlings player preferred or Wilson a500 would be better. I've had a Wilson a2000 1786 for a while that I love and try to convince him that he needed one too but he opted for the precision series akadema and I wasn't very impressed with that glove either.
If I am unable to return or if I can't find a better deal in considering the fact I don't feel comfortable taking the glove apart to add any padding is there a specific reason why you don't recommend using a full inner glove vs the one finger style? I would assume it's because of feel but it seems that a lot of catchers in the majors use them. And the last thing would be if I did decide to go with a full glove is the palm guard or the All Star better? Thanks so much for any help this site is awesome wish I had known about it sooner

I'm not sure if you are suggesting the "Palm Gard" batting glove with padding built in, but this would be an excellent option.

I got the All Star padded glove like 3 months ago and I find it very uncomfortable. It's way to bulky IMO.
