Hello all. I hope you all don't find this question annoying. I know there are numerous threads about glove break in. I just picked up my "first" first base mitt and am looking for any tips on breaking it in and forming the pocket. Thanks all!

I would break it in a lot like an outfield glove - pinky to thumb for a big pocket. Try not to bend the toe, you want it to be as stiff as possible for picking boogers.

Would you definitely not use oils or conditioners?

And to be honest this is my first mitt like I said. So when I read "to pick boogers" in your reply, I literally looked at my mitt and said to myself, "that's not possible". Not that I pick my nose in my late 20's but thought you'd get a laugh out of it. I did.

For me with my first base mitt, I find it very hard to close it pinky to thumb.

i like to put a softball and two baseballs on it. i get it so the ball can really be caught anywhere in the glove because when u get those balls in the dirt alot of time ure gna catvh them in the heel or top of the web. softball in the pocket then put a baseball in the heel and one at the top of the web then tie it up

you definitely want the largest pocket possible. I started my break-in of a prostx23 with just playing catch. Depending on how stiff your leather is, you might feel comfortable really getting some good break-in time later rather than earlier. Getting used to how the glove deals with picks is something you really want to do. I just spent a couple weeks where I would have practice days where my team mates would throw me balls in the dirt on purpose. Just get comfortable with the glove.
